Alan Hern

About me ..I come from a long line of Bulldogs including my grandmother (class of '34), father (class of '67), mother (class of '68), and sister (class of '92)! I attended Las Juntas Elementary, Martinez Junior High, and graduated from Alhambra in 1989. I received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy directly from high school and graduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1993. I served as a naval officer until 1998 and deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1996-97 on board guided missile cruiser USS Antietam. After the navy, I worked in the civilian sector in a variety of roles prior to getting into the teaching profession. I started coaching both football and baseball at Alhambra in 2003 and enjoyed the experience of working with students so much that I went back to school to get my teaching credential. I earned my credential and MA Education from Chapman University and later earned a second MA in Teaching Leadership from Saint Mary's College of California. I am entering my fifth year as full time staff member and my third year as the head varsity football coach. I look forward to imparting my experience and love of fitness and sport to all of my students!
